Our Faculty
All teaching faculty at EAFA are practicing artists and have been trained under the same lineage so that all information is consistent. While we do occasionally have student instructors in training, our main teaching faculty is as follows.
Ewan
McNaughton
Artist, Educator, and Founder
In 2011, Ewan founded an art atelier with a clear conviction: artistic expression begins with the mastery of observation. Having witnessed too many artists emerge from formal art education without a strong foundational skill set, Ewan recognised a gap that limited their confidence, development, and creative freedom. He set out to create an environment where artists could build the traditional skills necessary to express their ideas with greater clarity and conviction.
At the heart of Ewan's philosophy is a simple but powerful belief: everyone has the potential to be an artist, and everyone has something within them worth bringing to the world.
Driven by this belief, Ewan chose to place his own artistic aspirations aside and fully dedicate himself to helping others achieve theirs. What began as a small studio has become a lifelong mission to make rigorous, traditional training accessible to artists from all walks of life.
Ewan measures his sucess not by his own achievements, but by the achievements of those he has passed knowledge and skills on to.
His influence extends beyond the studio. Ewan has delivered workshops internationally and contributed instructional articles to a range of art publications, sharing his passion and advocating for the enduring value of traditional artist training.
Lea
Vaughn
Lea is an award winning American artist born in 1972. In her youth she was always transfixed with representational art and followed that interest by enrolling in programmes at Brenau College in the US and Carnegie College in Scotland. Through years of art education being encouraged to explore progressively looser interpretations of art, Lea kept finding herself returning again and again to the ideals of representational art and the purity of blending strong technical skills with creativity. Her main area of interest lay in figurative works and portraiture. She joined the Edinburgh Atelier in 2013 and teaches classes and workshops both in Scotland and internationally.
